Crypto Comes to Panama City: Residents Can Soon Pay Taxes in Bitcoin and Stablecoins
Panama City is set to roll out crypto payment options for public services, Mayor Mayer Mizrachi revealed in a post on X.
Citizens will be able to pay taxes, permits, parking tickets, and other municipal fees using bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), USDC, and tether (USDT).
“Rather than waiting for new laws, we used existing regulations creatively,” Mizrachi said. “Public institutions must receive USD, so we’ve teamed up with a bank that will accept crypto and convert it instantly.”
The move aims to open the door for broader crypto adoption across both the local government and economy.
