Cardano Anchors 500,000 Supply-Chain Records on Its Blockchain

The Cardano Foundation and Brazilian technology company Blockforce have announced a major expansion of their supply-chain verification system. ADA is now being used as the public verification layer within Blockforce’s enterprise traceability platform, which is already deployed by some of Brazil’s largest fashion companies and has recorded more than 500,000 supply-chain entries on Cardano.

The system addresses a key challenge for regulated supply chains: proving that records are authentic to outside parties without revealing sensitive commercial information. A completely private database makes independent verification difficult, while putting all supply-chain information on a public blockchain could expose supplier details, prices and contract information.

Blockforce’s solution separates the data from its proof. Detailed information for each stage of the supply chain is stored on a permissioned network that can only be accessed by authorized participants. A cryptographic proof of each record is then anchored to Cardano’s public blockchain. This allows auditors, regulators and customers to verify that a record has not been altered without giving them access to the underlying business data.

Cutting the Cost of Blockchain Verification

Cost has traditionally been a major barrier to using public blockchains for enterprise traceability at scale. Recording hundreds of thousands of individual supply-chain events directly on a public network can become too expensive once a project expands beyond a limited group of pilot suppliers.

According to the Cardano Foundation and Blockforce, joint engineering efforts reduced the cost of anchoring each record by 92%. The companies describe the reduction as a key factor that enabled the technology to move from a proof-of-concept environment into production use at enterprise scale.

More than 500,000 records have already been anchored using the system.

Additional technical documentation from Blockforce says the permissioned portion of the architecture operates on Hyperledger Fabric, alongside other storage components.

The complete architecture is detailed in the Cardano Foundation’s Blockforce case study. It includes the uVerify component as well as the batching configuration used to combine multiple certificates into Cardano transactions.

Guilherme Pereira, Ecosystem Growth Specialist for LATAM at the Cardano Foundation, described the development primarily as an infrastructure milestone, highlighting the system’s ability to provide verifiable public proof while keeping sensitive supply-chain information private.
