Bitcoin Holds Near $64K as HYPE Climbs 8% This Week
1 hour ago
Most major cryptocurrencies posted gains on Sunday, although bitcoin, ether, XRP and Solana remain in negative territory over the past week.
Bitcoin moved close to $64,000 during Monday’s Asian morning session, rising about 0.5% over 24 hours but remaining nearly 3% lower for the week. A weaker U.S. dollar and reduced expectations for another rate hike have so far failed to push crypto prices beyond their recent trading range.
Hyperliquid’s HYPE was the strongest performer among major tokens, climbing more than 3% to around $59 and gaining nearly 9% over the past seven days. It was the only major asset to post a notable weekly advance. Ether rose more than 1% to just below $1,900 but remains down about 1% for the week.
Dogecoin gained nearly 1% to about 7 cents, while Tron increased less than 0.5% to slightly above 33 cents. XRP edged up to around $1 but has fallen roughly 3% over seven days. Solana rose slightly to above $75 and is down nearly 2% on the week. BNB slipped marginally to just above $604 and was little changed over the seven-day period.
The broader macro environment has become more supportive for risk assets, although cryptocurrencies have yet to respond strongly. Bloomberg’s dollar index fell 0.1%, extending its potential decline toward a third consecutive session and reaching levels last seen in May. Meanwhile, MSCI’s emerging-market currency index touched a record intraday high, supported by gains in the Taiwanese dollar and Thai baht.
The shift followed Friday’s U.S. retail sales data, which showed the biggest monthly decline in more than a year as consumer spending weakened. Markets now see roughly a 25% probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike next month, down from around 50% a week earlier. Treasury yields also moved higher across maturities.
Nick Ruck, director of LVRG Research, told CoinDesk that bitcoin remains stuck near $63,000, while weakening exchange-traded fund inflows suggest investor confidence has not fully recovered from last week’s sell-off.
Ruck identified the release of the Federal Open Market Committee minutes and potential developments from the expected White House crypto meeting as key events to watch this week. Both could offer fresh clues about the outlook for U.S. monetary policy and crypto regulation.
Minutes from the Fed’s July 28-29 meeting are scheduled for release Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET. The document could indicate how close policymakers came to raising interest rates before recent economic data reduced expectations for a hike.
