XRP Drops to $1 as Traders Look for a Rebound

  • XRP traders are increasingly positioning for a recovery as the token hovers around $1, even as social media sentiment has deteriorated to its weakest level in three months.
  • Open interest in XRP futures rose to approximately $2.78 billion on Monday, marking a 2% increase over 24 hours. Trading volume also surged 55% to about $1.17 billion, according to CoinGlass.
  • On Binance, more than three accounts were holding long XRP positions for every account with a short position. Among the exchange’s largest traders, the long-to-short ratio stood at roughly 3.6 to 1. OKX reported a similar ratio of around 3.6 to 1.
  • A long position reflects a trader’s expectation that an asset’s price will increase. Using leverage allows traders to control a larger position with less capital, but positions can be automatically liquidated when losses become large enough.
  • Despite the strong bullish positioning, sentiment toward XRP has weakened considerably. Santiment said discussions about the token across X, Reddit, Telegram and other social platforms reached their most negative level in three months this week after XRP failed to generate a sustained rally.
  • XRP is currently trading around $1, well below the more than $3 level reached during last year’s peak.
  • The size of the derivatives market becomes more apparent when measured by the amount of XRP involved. Roughly 2.77 billion XRP is currently tied to futures positions, up from about 2 billion earlier this summer and approaching levels previously seen when XRP traded at several times its current price.
  • Network activity has also picked up. Santiment reported nearly 50,000 active XRP addresses over a 24-hour period, the highest level in more than two months after activity fell toward its 2026 lows in July.
  • An active address refers to a wallet that sends or receives at least one transaction during a given period. While rising active addresses indicate greater ledger activity, the metric does not reveal whether users are buying, selling or simply transferring XRP between wallets they control.
  • CoinGlass data show that XRP’s overall long-to-short ratio across exchanges was around 0.93 over the past 24 hours, suggesting positioning across the broader market remains relatively balanced. The stronger bullish bias is concentrated on Binance, OKX and among their largest traders.
  • A break below the $1 level could put leveraged long positions under pressure. Traders who no longer have enough collateral to support their positions could face forced liquidations, potentially adding further selling pressure to XRP.
  • XRP was trading near $1 during Monday’s Asian morning session, while bitcoin moved above $64,000.
