India’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, CoinDCX, has temporarily limited the opening of new futures positions following a security incident at Binance that disrupted a major global liquidity provider. The exchange emphasized that customer funds, deposits and withdrawals have not been affected.
The impact of Binance’s security breach has extended beyond its own trading platform, prompting CoinDCX to introduce temporary restrictions on its futures market as a precautionary measure.
In a post on X shortly before publication, CoinDCX announced that its futures trading service had entered “reduce-only” mode because of recent developments involving a global liquidity provider. Although the exchange did not initially identify the provider, a CoinDCX spokesperson confirmed to CoinDesk that it was Binance.
The restriction prevents traders from opening fresh futures positions or increasing the size of existing long and short trades. However, users can still adjust margin on their current positions, and existing orders remain active and eligible for execution.
CoinDCX clarified that its deposit and withdrawal services continue to operate normally and that customer assets remain secure.
The measure is limited to futures trading and is temporary. However, the exchange has not announced when it expects to restore normal trading operations.
The decision highlights how disruptions at major liquidity providers can affect other cryptocurrency platforms that depend on them for market access. Even when an exchange’s own infrastructure and customer funds remain unaffected, problems at a connected trading venue can force it to restrict activity and manage exposure.
CoinDCX Futures Market Relies on Global Liquidity Providers
CoinDCX sources a considerable portion of its futures market liquidity from major international exchanges, including Binance.
The company’s institutional documentation describes infrastructure that streams order-book data from Binance for USDT-margined perpetual contracts and routes trading activity through those connections.
However, CoinDCX’s trading activity remains relatively small compared with major global derivatives platforms such as Binance and Deribit.
CoinGecko data showed that the exchange recorded slightly more than $1 million in combined spot and futures trading volume over the preceding 24 hours.
Binance Reports $6.3 Billion Security Incident
Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, disclosed a major security incident spanning October 29–30, with the estimated financial impact reaching approximately $6.3 billion in crypto assets.
Preliminary findings suggested that an attacker gained access through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer. The device reportedly provided access to a service container that was subsequently used to submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
Binance stated that its investigation had found no evidence of private-key exposure.
