Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Treasury, BTC Yield Nears 100% in Latest Quarter
Japan’s Metaplanet has further strengthened its Bitcoin treasury, purchasing an additional 2,205 BTC as part of its ongoing accumulation strategy. With this latest acquisition, the company now holds a total of 15,555 BTC, according to a disclosure released on Monday.
The newest purchase was executed at an average price of 15.64 million yen per bitcoin, representing an investment of approximately 34.49 billion yen ($213 million). This brings Metaplanet’s overall bitcoin investment to 225.82 billion yen ($1.38 billion), with the company’s average purchase price across all buys standing at 14.52 million yen per BTC.
Metaplanet monitors performance using a proprietary measure called BTC Yield, which gauges how much value in bitcoin terms is generated for each fully diluted share, while accounting for potential share dilution.
For the quarter ending June 30, Metaplanet reported a BTC Yield of 95.6%, following a remarkably high 309.8% in the preceding quarter. BTC Yield reflects the percentage increase in bitcoin holdings per share, isolating the impact of treasury-related strategies.
Additionally, the company tracks BTC Gain and BTC Yen Gain, which translate BTC Yield into hypothetical bitcoin accumulation and yen-denominated results, offering investors a clearer perspective on how treasury actions affect overall value creation.
