Bitwise Investment Advisers’ Bitwise NEAR Protocol ETF, trading under the ticker NRR, is structured to hold NEAR directly while potentially earning additional tokens through staking. The prospectus states that the shares are expected to be listed on NYSE Arca and outlines the fund’s proposed structure and operating terms.
The ETF’s main objective is to reflect the value of the NEAR held by the Trust after accounting for operating expenses and other liabilities. Its secondary objective is to generate additional NEAR through staking. This gives NRR an altcoin ETF structure that combines direct token exposure with an on-chain yield component.
Bitwise’s official fund website names NYSE Arca as the exchange and gives September 28, 2026, as the fund’s inception date. Meanwhile, the SEC filing uses language describing the proposed listing. The two sources therefore serve different purposes, with the prospectus detailing the intended terms and the fund website providing separate operational information.
NEAR’s connection to artificial intelligence and the agentic economy has been part of the broader narrative surrounding the product. However, the investment structure outlined in the filing is straightforward: the Trust holds NEAR and may stake some of its holdings. While interest in AI-related applications could influence demand for the token, it does not alter NRR’s direct exposure to NEAR’s price or guarantee that staking rewards will protect investors from losses.
Custody, Valuation and Staking Structure
Coinbase Custody Trust Company will serve as the custodian for NRR’s NEAR holdings and maintain segregated accounts for the Trust. Some or all of those tokens may be staked, with the sponsor appointing staking agents responsible for operating validators connected to the staked assets.
The fund will calculate its NAV using the CME CF NEAR Protocol, Dollar Reference Rate, New York Variant. The benchmark is based on executed trades across major NEAR markets. NRR carries a unitary management fee of 0.75% annually on its NEAR holdings.
Staking rewards earned by the Trust become part of its assets and can increase the NAV per share. However, the amount of additional NEAR depends on network reward conditions, while the management fee and other liabilities reduce the fund’s net value. Staking should therefore not be viewed as a guaranteed fixed return.
The structure also relies on the performance of staking agents and the custody system. Access to staked tokens and validator operations are separate considerations from NEAR’s market price and can influence how the staking strategy performs.
NRR shares are created and redeemed through baskets containing 10,000 shares by authorized participants. This mechanism is designed to connect the number of shares in circulation with the amount of NEAR attributable to each share. Investors trading NRR on an exchange, however, can still encounter prices above or below the fund’s NAV.
Premiums or discounts, along with brokerage expenses and the 0.75% management fee, can influence investors’ actual returns.
What Comes Next for NEAR?
NEAR gained renewed attention following Bitwise’s September 29 launch of the spot NEAR ETF, NRR. The product reportedly recorded roughly $50 million in inflows during its first two trading sessions, adding to the renewed institutional focus on the token.
Interest also spread to South Korea, where traders reportedly earned $40,000 by taking a long position on NEAR during the semifinal stage of a trading competition.
From a technical standpoint, the $4.50-$4.65 region remains an important support zone for buyers. Holding that area could allow NEAR to attempt a move back above $5.00, potentially opening the way toward $5.50 and then the psychological $6.00 level.
A break below $4.50, however, could increase selling pressure and bring the $4.00 area into focus.
The broader outlook will depend largely on whether ETF inflows remain steady and whether staking activity develops into sustained demand for NEAR.
The protocol’s expanding role in AI infrastructure and cross-chain transactions could provide additional catalysts. Still, after the recent rally, expectations are elevated. ETF flows, trading activity and overall crypto-market sentiment will therefore be important indicators of whether NEAR can extend its advance or faces renewed selling pressure.
