Cardano’s ADA Outperforms as Crypto Market Remains Range-Bound

Cardano’s ADA is posting notable gains while most major cryptocurrencies remain confined to familiar trading ranges, giving the token a clear edge in Monday’s market.

ADA has climbed 10% over the past 24 hours and gained 4% since midnight UTC, trading above $0.27, its highest price since May, according to CoinDesk data. Smaller tokens including VVV, ENA and PEPE have also advanced about 5% over the same period. By comparison, bitcoin (BTC) is up 1% and ether (ETH) has gained 0.5%. Bitcoin remains within its recent $84,000-$87,000 range.

The immediate catalyst behind ADA’s stronger performance is unclear, although renewed interest in Cardano’s “RealFi” initiative may be supporting sentiment. Announced Oct. 1, the product allows users to direct stablecoins toward institutional credit opportunities offering yields of up to 9% annually.

Investors may also be positioning ahead of Cardano’s next major scalability and optimization phase, known as the Dijkstra era. Phase 1 is expected to begin between late December 2026 and early 2027 and will introduce Linear Leios and nested transactions, features designed to significantly increase transaction throughput.

Dollar Strength and Crypto

The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) rose to 102.53 early Monday, reaching its highest level since April 2025. The move extends the index’s recovery from its Sept. 9 low of 98.60.

A sustained increase in the dollar is traditionally viewed as a potential drag on bitcoin and other crypto assets, although historical correlations indicate that the relationship between DXY and crypto prices is relatively weak.

Derivatives Positioning

Bitcoin open interest slipped to $22.0 billion from $22.4 billion on Friday, while funding rates remained elevated, generally ranging between 4% and 10% annualized across exchanges. The three-month annualized basis remained around 5%-6%.

Overall positioning has remained relatively firm following Friday’s increase, with leveraged long positions still largely intact rather than being aggressively closed.

Options activity remained strongly tilted toward calls, with the 24-hour put/call ratio at 87/13 in favor of calls. The one-week 25-delta skew moved into negative territory at -7%, compared with roughly 1.5% previously. The at-the-money term structure remained in contango, moving from around 24%-25% at the front end to approximately 39% by late 2027.

Coinglass reported $174 million in liquidations over 24 hours, with shorts accounting for 72% and longs 28%. Bitcoin led the liquidation totals at $74 million, followed by ether at $31 million and other assets at $13 million. Binance’s liquidation heatmap highlights $87,150 as an important level to watch if bitcoin moves higher.

Token Moves

Sui (SUI) was among the strongest major layer-1 performers, rising nearly 7% over 24 hours to around $1.85. The move followed a technical breakout and increased trader interest ahead of the network’s upcoming Basecamp ecosystem event.

Ethena (ENA) moved in the opposite direction, dropping nearly 9% over 24 hours to $0.24. The decline made it one of the weakest performers among large-cap DeFi tokens as traders reduced risk ahead of a 3.03 billion-token unlock scheduled for early October.

Solana (SOL) and Uniswap (UNI) were both down about 0.4%, trading near $121 and $9.06, respectively. BNB remained largely unchanged around $788 as the broader market continued consolidating after recent macroeconomic inflation data.

Monad (MON) also reversed earlier optimism, falling more than 4% over 24 hours to around $0.032. The decline came despite StraitsX, a Singapore-based fintech company, announcing plans to issue native SGD and USD stablecoins on the network. Broader market pressure outweighed the significance of the integration announcement.

Zcash (ZEC) declined 2% over 24 hours to roughly $1,330 as momentum around privacy-focused tokens cooled. Traders instead shifted attention toward layer-1 performance and upcoming token unlocks.
