Hunter Biden Hits Back at Critics as LAPTOP Launch Nears

Hunter Biden is defending his LAPTOP memecoin ahead of its Wednesday debut, describing the project as an effort to reclaim a controversy that has followed him for years while accusing Donald Trump’s TRUMP token of being a “grift.”

Biden said LAPTOP represents “resilience, redemption and recovery” and plans to distribute tokens to nearly one million wallets that suffered losses from TRUMP.

“I understand the cynicism,” Biden wrote on X during the early Asian trading hours Wednesday, questioning why a project built around something that had been exploited by “grifters” should be taken seriously.

He cited TRUMP’s steep decline from its 2025 high, saying nearly one million wallets collectively lost about $3.8 billion. LAPTOP intends to allocate 20% of its token supply to community airdrops, including distributions to wallets that lost money by holding TRUMP.

Another 30% of LAPTOP’s supply will be connected to political, cryptocurrency and cultural predictions. Tokens associated with predictions that prove correct will be burned, while those tied to outcomes that do not materialize will be donated to charity.

Founders, including Biden, will receive another 30% of the supply. Biden said those tokens will be subject to lockups and vesting schedules.

Biden also cautioned buyers against expecting him or other participants to drive up LAPTOP’s value. He said the project is intended to represent a statement rather than simply function as an asset for investors.

The comments followed strong criticism from crypto traders on Monday and Tuesday.

Kraken, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, removed a promotional post for LAPTOP after receiving backlash from traders. Video journalist Andrew Callaghan, who runs Channel 5, also separated himself from the project after his audience was included in a proposed token distribution.

Base, the Coinbase-developed blockchain hosting LAPTOP’s launch, likewise emphasized that it had no partnership with the memecoin. Base founder Jesse Pollak said the project had contacted his team, but Base deliberately chose not to participate in its design or promotion.

The controversy surrounding the laptop dates back years. Data reportedly recovered from the device included emails concerning Biden’s overseas business activities, along with highly personal photographs, messages and videos related to drug use and his private life. The laptop became a major source of political attacks and generated a large volume of internet memes.

Biden is now attempting to transform that long-running controversy into the foundation of LAPTOP itself.

His message was summed up in a simple line: the laptop was once used as a political weapon, but he has now turned it into a token.
