Cardano Foundation Launches Veridian Platform and Wallet to Reinvent Digital Identity in a Privacy-First Era

The Cardano Foundation has introduced Veridian, a new open-source identity platform designed to return control of personal data to users and businesses. Launched Friday, the initiative includes the Veridian Wallet, a secure app that allows individuals to verify their identity online without surrendering sensitive details.

The timing couldn’t be more critical. In today’s connected world—where everything from online banking and healthcare to shipping and education depends on digital identity—security gaps have never been more dangerous. In 2024 alone, over 1.7 billion records were breached in the U.S., highlighting the fragile state of current identity solutions.

“The backbone of trust across industries lies in how we manage identity,” said Thomas A. Mayfield, Head of Decentralized Trust and Identity Solutions at Cardano Foundation. “Yet traditional systems keep failing to protect user data and privacy, often requiring individuals to overshare information with little to no control.”

Veridian addresses that challenge with a decentralized approach. Rather than relying on centralized entities to store and verify personal information, Veridian allows users to manage their identities directly. It leverages shared protocols to enable secure, verifiable interactions without handing over control to third parties.

The Veridian Wallet brings this vision to life. Designed for both individual and enterprise use, it enables users to store credentials on their devices, selectively disclose data when needed, and optionally link their identity to the Cardano blockchain for additional trust.
