Crypto Whale Shorts $445M in Bitcoin While Taking a Bullish Position on MELANIA Token
Bitcoin (BTC) has remained stable since last Tuesday, climbing above $84,000 over the weekend. Despite this recovery, a crypto whale has placed a massive $445 million short position on BTC, while simultaneously betting bullish on the MELANIA token.
According to Hyperliquid and Lookonchain, the whale’s BTC perpetual futures short is leveraged at 40x, with a liquidation price of $86,000. As of now, the position has yielded an unrealized gain of $1.3 million.
The trade quickly gained traction on X (formerly Twitter) after pseudonymous trader CBB attempted to rally other traders to force the whale’s liquidation.
“11 hours ago, @Cbb0fe publicly formed a team to hunt this whale who shorted BTC with 40x leverage. Just one hour later, the team was in action, pushing BTC above $84,690,” blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain reported.
In response to the price movement, the whale was forced to deposit $5 million USDC to bolster margin and avoid liquidation. However, despite the coordinated effort, the short position remained intact.
Whale Goes Long on MELANIA Token
Alongside the BTC short, the whale has also taken a 5x leveraged long on MELANIA perpetual futures, anticipating a rise in the memecoin’s price. Reports indicate that MELANIA is marketed by MKT World LLC, a Florida-based company associated with Melania Trump, the wife of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Hyperliquid Emphasizes Transparency in Crypto Trading
The trading platform Hyperliquid weighed in on the situation, highlighting its role in bringing transparency to crypto markets.
“When a whale shorts $450M+ BTC and wants a public audience, it’s only possible on Hyperliquid. The decentralized future is here,” the platform stated on X.
Hyperliquid recently gained attention after a major trader leveraged a “liquidation arbitrage” strategy, profiting from floating gains and triggering forced liquidations that ultimately transferred risk to the platform’s HLP vault.
