Hoskinson Highlights Cardano’s Builder Economy
In today’s Cardano news, Charles Hoskinson said during a recent livestream that the network’s long-term growth will ultimately depend on the applications developers create using its infrastructure. The Cardano founder called on both the community and the Cardano Foundation to support Midnight and other major projects across the ecosystem.
Hoskinson discussed the issue during a livestream titled “Devs versus Builders,” where he responded to criticism directed at Midnight and its recent strategic adjustments. He argued that Cardano’s role goes beyond functioning as a smart-contract network or processing ADA transactions. According to Hoskinson, the ecosystem generates greater value when developers use its infrastructure to create applications that attract users, customers and economic activity.
This is not the first time Hoskinson has made that case. In April, he told critics that Cardano “needs to grow up or die” after a stake pool operator argued that Midnight’s initial one-way bridge was damaging the ADA ecosystem.
During the latest livestream, Hoskinson questioned why parts of the Cardano community seem unwilling to embrace Midnight despite the project’s significant presence within the ecosystem. He cautioned that opposition toward successful projects could make other developers think twice before building on Cardano.
Cardano’s Ecosystem and Midnight
Midnight is designed as a privacy-focused blockchain. Its developer materials describe a platform that allows applications to protect sensitive information while keeping transactions and data verifiable. Hoskinson emphasized that Midnight should not be treated as an independent competitor to Cardano, but rather as one of the ecosystem’s largest projects.
At the same time, he said Midnight has responsibilities of its own. The project should focus on making its technology simpler, broadly applicable and inexpensive to operate. Hoskinson argued that technological progress by itself will not be enough to address cultural problems within the wider ecosystem.
For traders, the more important issue is not necessarily Cardano’s immediate price action but whether the Cardano Foundation actively promotes Midnight and other ecosystem projects. Another key factor will be whether the friction between developers and builders declines enough to maintain a steady flow of development across the network.
Hoskinson ended the livestream by reaffirming his commitment to Cardano. While acknowledging that he could leave the project, he said he remains involved because he considers the work unfinished. His comments highlight how seriously he views the current debate, framing it less as a market issue and more as a question of governance, culture and maintaining developer confidence.
