Bitcoin Holds Near $76K as Market Pressure Tests Bulls

Bitcoin was trading at around $76,300 in today’s market snapshot. Its market capitalization was approximately $1.532 trillion, while 24-hour trading volume stood near $29 billion. Over the same period, Bitcoin had gained about 1%.

The latest price movement came after a procedural setback for the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act in the Senate. The legislation failed to move forward in Tuesday’s procedural vote after receiving fewer than the 60 votes needed for advancement. Before the vote, Bitcoin had fallen to roughly $75,600 on September 16 from levels close to $80,000.

The unsuccessful vote represented a short-term setback for efforts to establish a comprehensive U.S. framework for crypto market structure. Senate Democrats opposed advancing the bill over concerns involving government ethics provisions and potential presidential conflicts of interest. Pressure from community banks regarding stablecoin reward provisions, along with defections among Republicans, also contributed to the bill losing momentum.

The Senate vote was procedural and did not represent a final vote on the legislation. Since the measure failed to reach the required threshold for advancement, its next steps remain uncertain as the midterm legislative calendar draws closer. Crypto-related stocks, including Coinbase, Robinhood, and Strategy, also recorded losses around the same period as Bitcoin declined.

Bitcoin remains the largest and first cryptocurrency and has a maximum supply of 21 million coins. The September 17 market snapshot showed 20,085,571 BTC in circulation. The provider’s outlook for 2026 describes the year as a recovery phase rather than another major push toward record highs, projecting a price range between $59,500 and $84,200, with an average of approximately $71,400.

According to that outlook, potential Federal Reserve rate cuts and continued spot-ETF inflows ahead of the 2028 Bitcoin halving represent the primary bullish catalysts. On the downside, the report points to interest rates remaining elevated for longer and a sustained move below $58,300 as key risks.

The technical analysis highlights several price levels that traders may watch. Its assessment was based on a period when Bitcoin was trading in the low-$60,000 range and remained below its 50-day moving average at approximately $65,143 and its 200-day moving average near $74,705. The analysis also placed the Relative Strength Index around 48 and characterized the Fear & Greed Index as showing Extreme Fear.

With Bitcoin trading above $76,000 in the September 17 snapshot, the cryptocurrency had moved above the previously identified $74,705 level. However, the technical framework considers a sustained move back above the 200-day moving average more significant than a single price reading.

From a regulatory perspective, the key question is whether the CLARITY Act can rebuild momentum following its procedural defeat. Yahoo Finance reported that the vote underscored ongoing disagreements surrounding ethics requirements, conflicts of interest, and stablecoin provisions.

The technical framework also gives traders several downside levels to monitor. It identifies $74,705 as the longer-term moving-average level, while $62,460, the $60,000-$61,000 range, and $58,300 represent additional support areas.

The broader outlook continues to focus on Federal Reserve policy, spot Bitcoin ETF flows, and the approaching 2028 halving. These factors remain relevant to Bitcoin’s market outlook, but they do not make a Senate procedural vote a definitive measure of Bitcoin’s valuation.
