Galaxy Digital Launches on Nasdaq Amid Busy Crypto Market Activity
Today marks a key milestone for Galaxy Digital (GLXY) as it officially began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. The Toronto-based crypto financial services firm, led by Mike Novogratz, steps into the spotlight, though it faces plenty of competition for attention in a crypto community buzzing with fresh developments.
Crypto enthusiasts on Crypto X—commonly still called Crypto Twitter—were particularly focused on Steak n’ Shake’s recent announcement that it now accepts Bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network. Customers can complete orders at self-serve kiosks by selecting the “Pay With Bitcoin” option and scanning a QR code via Lightning wallet apps such as Zeus, as shown in viral social media videos.
Meanwhile, Top Win International (TOPW), a Hong Kong luxury watch wholesaler, revealed plans to rebrand as AsiaStrategy and shift its treasury management into digital assets, taking a page from Michael Saylor’s Strategy (MSTR), which holds over 568,000 BTC, accounting for more than 2.5% of the bitcoin supply. Top Win has partnered with crypto venture firm Sora to execute this transformation. The company’s shares initially soared 45% before pulling back to trade down 31% at $5.14.
Sora also previously collaborated with Tokyo’s Metaplanet (3350), another firm that adopted a similar digital asset treasury strategy.
At Nasdaq, Novogratz commemorated Galaxy’s listing by ringing the opening bell on Friday, calling the event a “pivotal moment” for the firm. Galaxy confirmed it will keep its listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) for a transitional period following the Nasdaq debut.
Early trading saw Galaxy’s Nasdaq shares climb 3.2% to about $22.61, while its TSX-listed shares gained nearly 3%, closing at C$31.48 ($22.53).
