Bitcoin Technicals Turn Bullish as Ethereum Prepares for Glamsterdam

Here’s what to watch across crypto and macro markets during the week beginning Oct. 5.

Crypto markets are entering the week with heightened volatility. Bitcoin reclaimed $86,000 early Monday and briefly moved toward $87,000, bringing it close to an eight-month high before giving back part of the advance. Traders are watching the strength of the U.S. dollar for signs of whether BTC can continue higher or pause after its recent gains.

Bitcoin’s 50-, 100-, and 200-day moving averages are also moving closer to a fully bullish configuration, which would be the first such alignment since 2025. The setup suggests the cryptocurrency’s recovery over the past three months remains technically supported.

The macro calendar is relatively busy, with traders awaiting the ISM Services PMI, minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee’s September meeting, and the latest U.S. jobless claims data.

Ethereum will also be in focus as core developers prepare to activate the “Glamsterdam” upgrade on the Sepolia testnet. The week also includes governance activity involving Aave, AirSwap, Derive and Balancer.

Governance votes and calls

Aave: Aave is voting on whether to allow an external firm to manage a new independent lending market while splitting resulting profits equally. The Aave Request for Final Comment (ARFC) proposes a framework allowing Sentora to operate externally curated Hub and Spoke instances under Aave V4, with the first deployment authorized on Ethereum. Sentora would independently determine collateral, risk parameters and interest-rate curves outside the Aave DAO’s core risk mandate. The DAO would retain smart-contract administrative ownership and receive 50% of revenue. Voting ends Oct. 5.

AirSwap: AirSwap is holding a signaling vote on whether Consensys should temporarily halt its automated AST token sales if the market price falls below a minimum level set by the company. The proposed pause would apply to AST sales used to fund operational expenses. Voting ends Oct. 5.

Derive: Derive is voting on a DIP that would raise the portion of applicable protocol fees directed toward weekly DRV buybacks from 35% to 50%. The current execution schedule and buyback mechanisms would remain unchanged, with the proposal only increasing the percentage of fees allocated to purchases. Voting ends Oct. 5.

Balancer: Balancer is voting on a joint treasury resolution connected to its recent protocol wind-down plan. The proposal would resolve token-swap commitments between BalancerDAO and CoW DAO and establish the orderly return and pro-rata distribution of treasury-held COW and BAL assets. Voting ends Oct. 6.
