New S&P Index Tracks 15 Cryptocurrencies Alongside 35 Crypto-Related Stocks

S&P Dow Jones Indices, part of S&P Global, is preparing to launch a new hybrid index blending traditional equities with digital assets, offering investors a fresh way to track the fast-growing crypto sector.

The S&P Digital Markets 50 Index will include 35 publicly traded companies involved in blockchain, crypto infrastructure, and financial services, alongside 15 cryptocurrencies drawn from S&P’s Broad Digital Market Index. The index is designed as a cross-asset benchmark, capturing the performance of both companies building the digital asset ecosystem and the tokens that power it.

Dinari, a platform that tokenizes U.S. public equities, collaborated on the index and will issue a blockchain-based token called a “dShare”, allowing investors to track the index directly on-chain. The token aims to provide transparency and accessibility across blockchain platforms.

The initiative reflects a growing trend of institutional investors incorporating digital assets into their core portfolios rather than treating them purely as speculative bets. “From North America to Europe to Asia, market participants are beginning to treat digital assets as part of their investment toolkit,” said Cameron Drinkwater, Chief Product & Operations Officer at S&P Dow Jones Indices.

The index offers a way for investors to gain crypto exposure without taking on the full volatility of individual tokens.

Crypto-related stocks have surged this year as new digital asset firms go public and U.S. regulators provide clearer guidance. Coinbase (COIN) has climbed 50% year-to-date, while Robinhood (HOOD), which expanded its crypto offerings and acquired a crypto exchange, has gained over 250% since January.

Dinari emphasized that its tokenization effort is part of a broader effort to modernize index investing. “We’re not just tokenizing an index, we’re demonstrating how blockchain infrastructure can modernize trusted benchmarks,” said Anna Wroblewska, Dinari’s Chief Business Officer.

The Digital Markets 50 joins S&P’s growing lineup of crypto-related indices and signals the continued integration of traditional and digital finance. The official launch date has not yet been announced.
