Uniswap Labs President Mary-Catherine Lader Resigns After Serving Four Years

Mary-Catherine Lader Steps Down as President of Uniswap Labs After Four Transformative Years

Mary-Catherine Lader, who served as President and COO of Uniswap Labs for four years, has officially announced her departure as she prepares to begin a new chapter in her career.

Lader shared the news on social media Tuesday, stating: “Personal news: after four incredible years as President & COO of @Uniswap, I’m starting something new.” Reflecting on her journey, she noted the experience of building in crypto after her time at BlackRock, where she led the firm’s digital asset strategy before joining Uniswap in 2021.

During her tenure, Lader helped steer Uniswap through a period of rapid growth, product innovation, and intensifying regulatory pressure. Under her leadership, Uniswap Labs expanded its footprint with a mobile wallet, broader cross-chain functionality, and strategic ecosystem partnerships. Her efforts contributed to Uniswap’s position as one of DeFi’s most influential platforms, with more than $5 billion in total value locked.

Lader’s departure comes amid ongoing regulatory uncertainty. In 2024, Uniswap Labs received a Wells Notice from the SEC, alleging it operated as an unregistered exchange and broker. The company also paid a $175,000 settlement to the CFTC related to the availability of leveraged tokens via its interface. Despite those challenges, Uniswap has remained resilient and adaptive — especially as U.S. regulatory sentiment has softened under the current administration.

While a successor has yet to be announced, Lader’s exit marks the end of a critical era for Uniswap Labs. Her leadership helped define the company’s growth and its navigation of the evolving legal and policy landscape.

Her next move remains undisclosed, but expectations are high for what she builds next.
