Robinhood has added approximately $25 million worth of bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet, according to Johann Kerbrat, the company’s senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international.
Kerbrat disclosed the purchase during an interview on The Starting Block, broadcast Wednesday from the Digital Asset Summit (DAS) Asia conference.
He said adding BTC to the company’s treasury reflects Robinhood’s strong commitment to bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.
“Robinhood is a massive company at this point, with a market cap in the $100 billion [range]. So the $25 million worth of bitcoin is not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company,” Kerbrat said.
CoinDesk separately contacted Robinhood’s press team to ask whether the company plans to purchase additional bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
The purchase places Robinhood among an expanding group of public companies using bitcoin as a treasury asset. Nasdaq-listed Strategy began the approach in 2020, and more than 170 companies worldwide now hold BTC on their balance sheets. Corporate bitcoin holders include Tesla, Block, MARA Holdings, CleanSpark and Riot Platforms, which collectively hold well above 1.2 million BTC.
Robinhood, which has more than 28 million funded customers globally, has already built a significant presence in the crypto sector. In July, the company launched Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 network built on Arbitrum and designed around tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance.
Since the network went live on mainnet, Robinhood has introduced tokenized stock products, the USDG stablecoin and yield-generating lending through Robinhood Earn. The chain has also integrated DeFi protocols such as Uniswap and infrastructure providers including Chainlink, Alchemy and BitGo.
