Marathon Digital Scores Record Number of Block Rewards, Produces 950 BTC in May

Marathon Digital Hits Production Milestone, Mines 950 BTC in May Amid Strong Post-Halving Momentum

Bitcoin miner Marathon Digital (NASDAQ: MARA) notched a major milestone in May, producing 950 BTC — the company’s highest output since the April 2024 halving and a 35% increase over April’s total.

The firm also achieved its best-ever month for block rewards, securing 282 blocks in May — a 38% month-over-month gain — underscoring growing efficiency across its vertically integrated mining infrastructure.

“This kind of performance reflects the strategic advantage of operating our own pool,” said CEO Fred Thiel. “It’s allowed us to keep all the rewards and beat network-average luck by more than 10% since launch.”

Marathon’s energized hashrate climbed to 58.3 EH/s last month, boosting its share of total bitcoin rewards to 6.5%, up from 5.1% in April. Transaction fees contributed about 1.5% of total revenue, reflecting heightened on-chain activity.

As of May’s end, Marathon held 49,179 BTC on its balance sheet, opting to hold rather than sell amid a strong upward trend in bitcoin’s price.

The company’s shares closed up 5.5% on Tuesday, as bitcoin traded near $106,000 — helping boost sentiment across mining stocks.
