LIVE: Bitcoin Plunges as Iran Strike Fears and Wave of Crypto Hacks Rattle Markets

Bitcoin Price Drops as Iran Tensions and Crypto Hacks Trigger Fresh Market Turmoil

Bitcoin suffered a sharp decline as renewed fears of conflict involving Iran coincided with a series of cryptocurrency security breaches, delivering another blow to already fragile market sentiment. Reports of US strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island raised fresh concerns about energy supplies, while repeated hacking incidents continued to weaken confidence in the crypto industry.

The downturn comes amid subdued investor sentiment, declining ETF activity and growing uncertainty across global financial markets. Bitcoin is facing pressure from two directions: rising geopolitical risks and an escalating security crisis within the digital asset sector.

Reports of the latest US military action have added fresh uncertainty to an eight-month conflict that has disrupted shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices moved higher following the reports, with Brent crude trading close to $105 per barrel.

Iran Tensions Return as US Strikes Increase Market Uncertainty

Concerns about Iran resurfaced after reports emerged that US forces had targeted Qeshm Island, located near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. US officials characterized the operation as defensive, but the strikes could further complicate diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

Both sides have maintained contact in an effort to bring the conflict to an end, although negotiations have yet to produce a meaningful breakthrough.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical pressure point for global energy markets. The shipping route has historically handled roughly one-fifth of worldwide oil and natural gas supplies. Any prolonged disruption could push energy costs higher and add to inflationary pressures.

Rising crude prices could make monetary policy more difficult for central banks, potentially keeping borrowing costs and financial conditions restrictive. In that environment, risk-sensitive investments such as Bitcoin could face additional selling pressure as investors move toward cash and traditionally safer assets.

Asian stock markets also weakened as traders assessed geopolitical developments, technology-sector concerns and uncertainty ahead of the US midterm elections. According to Reuters, MSCI’s Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan declined 1.4%, while South Korean equities fell as much as 4.1%.

Bitcoin has so far failed to establish itself as a defensive asset during periods of market turbulence. Instead, its price behavior continues to resemble that of other risk-sensitive investments.

A Growing Wave of Crypto Hacks Adds to Investor Anxiety

The latest geopolitical concerns have emerged while the crypto industry is still dealing with the fallout from one of its largest reported security incidents. Binance experienced a breach involving approximately $6.3 billion in crypto assets, prompting customers to withdraw billions from the exchange and raising fresh questions about the reliability of centralized trading platforms.

Binance said it would absorb the losses, and withdrawal activity later began to stabilize. Even so, the incident has introduced another layer of uncertainty for investors already dealing with weak market conditions.

The exchange was not the only crypto-related platform affected by recent security problems. Mercado Bitcoin, Polymarket and infrastructure providers connected to digital asset services have also faced reported attacks.

Mercado Bitcoin disclosed an incident involving systems associated with customer information. Polymarket, meanwhile, experienced unauthorized withdrawals after a third-party service provider was compromised. These cases have renewed concerns about the security of exchanges, digital wallets and external services that support crypto applications.

Security researchers have also reported attacks involving outdated BTCPay Server installations and a vulnerable WordPress plugin used for cryptocurrency payments.

The repeated incidents come at a difficult time for the industry. A sustainable market recovery requires renewed investor participation and fresh capital. However, a continuing series of breaches could encourage users to move funds into self-custody solutions or reduce their exposure to the sector.

Can Bitcoin Recover From the Combined Market Pressure?

Bitcoin’s near-term direction may depend on whether tensions between the US and Iran begin to ease and whether confidence in crypto infrastructure can recover.

Progress in diplomatic discussions could reduce pressure on energy markets and improve demand for riskier investments. On the other hand, further escalation around the Strait of Hormuz could push oil prices higher, revive inflation concerns and trigger additional losses across equities and cryptocurrencies.

The market will also be watching whether the recent security incidents lead to a broader withdrawal of capital from digital assets. Binance’s withdrawal figures and further exchange-related breaches could remain important indicators of investor confidence.

For now, Bitcoin is navigating a difficult combination of international political uncertainty and problems originating within its own industry. Continued selling could place its recovery under further pressure. A reduction in geopolitical risks, combined with limited additional damage from the hacking incidents, could give buyers room to return.

Whether BTC can stabilize will depend on how investors respond to both the global market shock and the crypto industry’s continuing security challenges.

Consensys Introduces Institutional Settlement Network as MetaMask Faces a New Chapter

Consensys has unveiled a new institutional settlement network aimed at banks, asset managers and financial market infrastructure providers, bringing its broader enterprise strategy into focus as its planned separation from MetaMask approaches.

The launch raises questions about MetaMask’s position as an independent product while Consensys expands its focus on institutional blockchain services.

At Devcon, the company introduced Sovereign Network Interoperability, an infrastructure initiative designed to coordinate transactions between separately operated financial networks.

The development could create a new competitive environment for MetaMask as traditional financial institutions increase their involvement in blockchain-based systems.

Zcash Targets Faster Transactions With NU7 Upgrade

Zcash is preparing a network upgrade that aims to make transactions roughly three times faster, even as governance disagreements and recent price weakness weigh on the project.

The NU7 upgrade is scheduled for November 5 and will reduce the network’s target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The activation is planned for block height 3,543,405, according to the deployment schedule.

The technical improvement comes as the Zcash community debates the future of its grants funding structure. With ZEC also facing market pressure, investors are weighing the potential benefits of faster transaction processing against uncertainty surrounding the project’s governance.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin attracted attention at Devcon after appearing on stage in a green cloak and smiling mask, providing an unusual moment during one of the industry’s major developer gatherings.

Away from the lighthearted appearance, Bitmine Immersion Technologies continued expanding its Ethereum treasury. The company added another 8,573 ETH, bringing its reported holdings to 6,060,506 ETH as of November 1.

The position was valued at approximately $13.7 billion at an ETH price of $2,261. Bitmine now holds around 4.9% of Ethereum’s total supply and is approaching its stated objective of accumulating 5%.

US Midterm Election Puts Crypto Policy and Trump’s $5,000 Stimulus Proposal in Focus

The November 3 US midterm elections could influence the direction of crypto regulation, economic policy and broader investor sentiment.

Republicans are seeking to maintain control of Congress, while Democrats are attempting to regain power in at least one chamber. The results could determine how easily President Donald Trump can advance his economic agenda and other legislative priorities.

Three developments are particularly relevant to crypto markets: Trump’s proposed $5,000 stimulus dividend, the future of stalled cryptocurrency legislation and rising tensions involving Iran.

The election may not immediately alter the underlying fundamentals of digital assets. However, its outcome could influence expectations for market liquidity, regulatory policy and the broader financial environment.
