Anthony Pompliano to Helm $750M Bitcoin Fund in Bid to Rival Saylor’s Strategy: FT
Crypto entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano is reportedly taking the lead at ProCapBTC, a new bitcoin investment entity aiming to raise $750 million and establish itself as a heavyweight player in corporate bitcoin treasuries, according to the Financial Times.
The firm is set to go public via a merger with SPAC Columbus Circle Capital 1, backed by Cohen & Company, with $500 million expected from equity investors and another $250 million via convertible debt. Sources say a formal announcement could arrive as early as next week, though final terms remain in flux.
ProCapBTC’s mandate mirrors that of MicroStrategy (MSTR), which famously pioneered corporate bitcoin acquisition under Executive Chairman Michael Saylor. If the full $750 million is deployed into BTC, ProCapBTC would sit just outside the top 10 corporate holders, trailing firms like Tesla and Marathon Digital.
Pompliano, often regarded as one of bitcoin’s loudest evangelists, would further elevate his public profile if the deal goes through. He’s long advocated for companies to hold BTC on their balance sheets, calling it “digital property that outperforms fiat.”
The timing coincides with renewed optimism in crypto markets. President Donald Trump’s latest comments calling himself a “pro-crypto president” have emboldened the digital asset space, which is also seeing a resurgence in IPO activity. Circle (CRCL) skyrocketed over 160% on its trading debut last week, while Bullish, the parent company of CoinDesk and Bullish Exchange, is rumored to be eyeing a public listing.
Neither Pompliano nor Cohen & Company offered comment to the FT, but the market will be watching closely. If the venture succeeds, ProCapBTC could quickly become a new bellwether for institutional bitcoin demand.
