U.S. Welcomes Its First Crypto Staking ETF as Solana Fund Starts Trading

Solana Staking ETF Makes Debut in U.S. Market, Backed by Anchorage Digital

REX Shares and Osprey Funds have launched the REX-Osprey Solana + Staking ETF (ticker: SSK), introducing the first exchange-traded fund in the United States focused on crypto staking. Anchorage Digital has been appointed as the exclusive custodian and staking partner for the new fund.

Trading for SSK began Wednesday on the Cboe exchange, with an initial price of $25.47 per share. The ETF offers investors exposure to Solana (SOL), which has climbed 2% in the last 24 hours to reach $150, while simultaneously enabling them to earn staking rewards.

Unlike spot bitcoin and ethereum ETFs that fall under separate regulatory frameworks, SSK is governed by the Investment Company Act of 1940. This requires that the fund’s crypto holdings be secured by a qualified custodian instead of being managed directly by the ETF issuer. Anchorage Digital, recognized as the sole federally regulated bank authorized to both custody and stake crypto assets, will handle those responsibilities.

“Staking represents the next significant chapter in the evolution of crypto ETFs,” said Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, in a statement. “Bringing crypto staking ETFs to market is a major win for consumers and an important milestone toward broader access to the crypto ecosystem.”

The SSK ETF provides indirect exposure to Solana’s price movements, while capturing staking yields that contribute to the security and functioning of the Solana blockchain. Traditionally, staking required technical know-how and direct engagement with crypto protocols. Through this ETF, REX Shares and Osprey Funds aim to simplify the process, allowing everyday investors to participate via regular brokerage accounts.

The launch of SSK comes as the crypto ETF market evolves beyond just bitcoin and ether products, with issuers increasingly exploring innovative methods to offer regulated exposure to digital assets. Staking ETFs are emerging as the next frontier, combining yield generation with digital asset investment opportunities in SEC-regulated products.
