Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings with $126M Purchase, Surpasses El Salvador
In a major move announced on Monday, Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed investment firm, disclosed that it had acquired an additional 1,241 Bitcoin (BTC) for 18.4 billion yen (approximately $126 million). This purchase pushes the firm’s total Bitcoin holdings to 6,796 BTC, now valued at over $706 million at current prices.
The acquisition has catapulted Metaplanet ahead of El Salvador, which holds 6,174 BTC, according to the Bitcoin Office in the country. Metaplanet’s latest purchase, made at an average price of $102,119 per Bitcoin, marks its most aggressive buy since launching its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in April 2024.
The company reported that its BTC Yield, a key performance indicator for Bitcoin accumulation per share outstanding, is currently at 38% for Q2 2025, following a record 95.6% in Q1 2025 and 309.8% in Q4 2024. Metaplanet’s growing treasury strategy mirrors the Bitcoin accumulation approach of Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy (MSTR), which holds over 555,000 BTC.
Metaplanet has set a target of 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025, positioning itself as a major player in the global Bitcoin market. With its latest acquisition, the firm remains the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder in Asia and ranks 11th globally.
