Bitcoin extended its losses for a fourth straight day, briefly dipping below $81,000 before recovering. Meanwhile, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization fell beneath $2.8 trillion, reaching its lowest level in a month. The key concern now is whether Bitcoin can withstand inconsistent spot ETF flows, liquidation-driven selling, and a deteriorating macroeconomic environment.
For the moment, $80,000 represents both an important psychological barrier and a critical level for Bitcoin’s recent bullish trend. Although BTC has not confirmed a breakdown below this threshold, mounting selling pressure has turned it into a more significant support test than a routine intraday decline. Demand for spot Bitcoin ETFs is also influencing this test, though daily fund flows alone cannot guarantee a firm price floor.
Spot Bitcoin ETF demand has weakened, with inflows losing momentum before turning into net outflows over the previous four trading sessions. This reversal has reduced a source of buying pressure that had previously helped support the market.
Macroeconomic conditions are adding further pressure. Rising U.S. Treasury yields, a strengthening dollar, and growing risk aversion can weigh on volatile assets as investors reconsider their exposure to risk. These developments matter for Bitcoin because higher yields and dollar strength can weaken demand even without a specific catalyst within the cryptocurrency sector.
The derivatives market has introduced another layer of selling pressure. More than 180,000 traders faced liquidations over 24 hours, pushing total cryptocurrency liquidations above $1 billion. Long positions accounted for approximately $940 million of those losses.
As leveraged bullish positions were forcibly closed while prices declined, liquidations accelerated the market’s downward momentum. This activity also highlights that sharp Bitcoin price movements can result from leveraged positions being unwound, rather than spot market selling alone.
Bitcoin Price Faces a Critical $80,000 Support Test
Bitcoin recently slipped below $82,000 before recovering above that level. However, its inability to maintain stronger upward momentum has raised concerns about the durability of its bullish structure. The $80,000 threshold now represents the next major level to watch for confirmation of further weakness.
A decisive move below $80,000 could threaten the higher-low trend that has remained intact since July. Any subsequent downside levels should be viewed as potential support zones rather than guaranteed price targets, indicating areas where buyers might attempt to stabilize the market if selling pressure continues.
The downturn has extended across the broader cryptocurrency market. Major digital assets recorded losses of approximately 3% to 5% over 24 hours, with Ethereum trading near $2,400, BNB around $720, and XRP close to $1.40. The widespread declines suggest a broader reduction in risk appetite rather than a sell-off limited to Bitcoin.
A sustained recovery above $82,000, combined with more stable ETF flows, could reduce immediate concerns about Bitcoin’s support levels. However, the temporary rebound does not establish that either condition has been met. The latest price action only confirms that BTC recovered after briefly trading below the threshold.
The bearish outlook would strengthen if Bitcoin breaks decisively below $80,000 while ETF outflows continue, leveraged long liquidations persist, Treasury yields climb, and the dollar gains further ground. If these pressures intensify simultaneously, the $75,000 region could emerge as a potential downside area.
For now, $80,000 remains a critical risk threshold rather than a confirmed breakdown level. Traders will be watching whether Bitcoin can sustain a move above $82,000 and whether selling pressure begins to ease. Without a meaningful recovery, continued ETF outflows and excessive leverage could leave BTC vulnerable to another test of its key support zone.
