Wallets reportedly associated with the U.S. government transferred more than $100 million worth of cryptocurrency on Tuesday, based on blockchain data tracked by intelligence firm Arkham.
One set of government-linked wallets transferred 833.599 BTC, valued at roughly $71.6 million at the time, to two addresses that Arkham does not identify. Within several hours, both addresses forwarded the bitcoin to wallets Arkham identifies as Coinbase Prime deposit addresses.
In a separate transaction, a government-labeled wallet moved approximately 40,285 BNB, worth $31.63 million, to the unidentified address 0x7F68F63fB3A9CCCf352409603421E0A574FbAD90. The full amount was subsequently transferred to another unlabeled address, 0x6fB3Fe7b7E78AbB84CE007cBC7412C850B15A579.
The bitcoin transfers involved 568.7 BTC from a wallet Arkham identifies as Potapenko/Turogin forfeited funds and another 264.9 BTC seized in connection with the Bitfinex hack case. The BNB originated from assets seized from Alameda Research.
The U.S. government continues to hold approximately $27.5 billion worth of cryptocurrency, all of which was obtained through enforcement seizures. It has not used taxpayer funds to purchase additional crypto to date.
Government-linked crypto transfers frequently fuel speculation about an upcoming sale, but the latest movements do not appear to indicate one.
“ A transfer is not the same as a sale. Under a March 2025 executive order, bitcoin forfeited to the government is meant to be held in a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve,” market commentator Jose Rosell said on X.
