Empery Digital Cuts Bitcoin Holdings in Half With Major BTC Sale

The move reflects shifting priorities, as the struggling firm pivots away from its bitcoin treasury strategy toward investing in AI data center projects.

Empery Digital said Friday it sold 1,400 bitcoin at roughly $62,200 each, bringing in about $87.1 million.

Earlier in July, the company disclosed it needed $65 million to secure a 25% stake in a group purchasing a Midwest site that will be converted into an AI data center.

Empery was one of many companies launched through rapid SPAC deals during the 2025 boom in digital asset treasury firms. However, the sector has largely struggled, with most companies seeing their share prices drop by 90% or more from their 2025 peaks.

In what may signal a broader market bottoming phase, an increasing number of these firms are now selling the crypto assets they accumulated during the boom.

Empery still holds 1,514 bitcoin but indicated it does not plan to increase its holdings and could sell more BTC to fund other investments.

Looking ahead, co-CEO Ryan Lane said the company intends to continue directing capital toward similar large-scale, hyperscaler-backed opportunities.
